Research for Teachers
The Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program provides opportunities for middle and high school teachers to be immersed in the culture of engineering research at a POETS institution and develop curriculum based on POETS research through a paid fellowship that comprises both summer and year-long activities. RET teachers return to their classrooms filled with more confidence and enthusiasm with increased knowledge about the world of science and engineering research and its applications.
The long-term goal of the POETS RET program is to develop a several week unit. Each teacher or teacher pair will create a single module that will fit into the several week unit. In taking this approach, we anticipate that there will be much greater adoption by other teachers than would have occurred had each curriculum module remained in isolation.
Teachers receive a stipend of $7,000 for the summer and into the school year and a $2,000 supplies budget to implement their curriculum. Program dates are flexible. For information, please contact Joe Muskin (jmuskin@illinois.edu) and Dr. Phil Krein (krein@illinois.edu).
